We use an acrylic paintbrush, but if you like using that kind of brush to get an actual look of how it looks on your car it probably is the best option. Don't do a lot of heavy work, just a bit of care and patience.

The base of the acrylic paintbrush

We use a soft base of the same colors we used two years ago. The paint should be in an easy-to-touch, non-stretch setting. It will also work better with a brush.

I do my best to hold the acrylic piece flat and paint it until it shows.

A quick note about this: If it's a plastic piece you don't have to wait to polish that you can cut it for free using a hobbyist spray primer.

This one is a little tougher than what we use for vinyl, but most paintbrush brushes are sturdy enough to last in the car like any piece of vinyl.

The idea here is to get the color off of the acrylic. It takes a good deal of care to avoid fading, even if you do not have the quality control and precision to do it. If the paint starts to dry you may want to coat directly off of the acrylic (usually on one side). We like that some of the pigment, like green and blue, will not turn back up at all.
